Validation of the Fresno test of competence in evidence based medicine

BMJ (2003;326:319-32): The practice of Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM) involves some basic knowledge and skills related to searching and evaluating medical literature. This UCSF-Fresno Medical Education tool is designed to assess the level at which you are already utilizing EBM skills. Please complete the entire test in one sitting. There are 7 short answer questions, 2 questions that require a series of mathematical calculations, and three fill-in-the-blank questions. Allow yourself at least 30 minutes to complete the test. Test-Online

Critical appraisal Checklists, Glasgow University

These checklists (PDF) are designed to help you ask the appropriate questions of different types of research designs. They are adapted from a number of sources including the JAMA series on "How to read the Medical Literature", the UK Workshops on Teaching Evidence-based Health Care and the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP), Oxford.

AHRQ, US task forces on preventive services.

Recommendations and Methodology on preventive interventions: screening tests, counseling, immunizations, and chemoprophylactic regimens.

Evaluation tools,  HCPRDU - University of Salford, England

The tools were developed for the critical appraisal of research evidence as part of HCPRDU's systematic review and health outcome measures work. Tools are available for qualitative, quantitative and mixed method research papers.
